IAT Completes 1st Electric Converted Pre-Production Truck in Japan

Recently, IAT has officially completed a modified electric truck, which was co-worked with Yamato Mobility & Mfg (hereinafter referred to as YAMATO) and SBS Holdings Corporation (hereinafter referred to as SBS Group), and held a test drive event.

In August 2023, IAT signed a cooperation agreement with YAMATO to jointly promote the development and serial production transition of converted EV trucks with the SBS Group. In March this year, development verification was carried out on an Isuzu ELF 2t used truck. This time, based on the efforts so far, IAT started the verification of the Mitsubishi Fuso CANTER 1.5t truck. This is the first time that a small diesel truck has been electrically converted for mass production in Japan.

The driving performance and safety of the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter 1.5-ton vehicle, which is scheduled for mass production, were successfully verified in the test drive. Its performance received high praise from executives of the SBS Group of Companies. Once the type certification approval and road test is to be finished within this year, the converted model shall be put in mass production and delivered by next spring.

In order to increase the market share of electric vehicles in the future, IAT will contribute, together with YAMATO, to convert the long-standing diesel trucks owned by SBS Group companies to electric type so that the investment and upkeep cost can be further optimized. In addition, the project will help address the priority task of vehicle CO2 emission reduction in the SBS Group's medium-and-long term environmental program, “Cynthia Challenge 2030”.

The in-depth cooperation between IAT and the local logistics giant in Japan is not only a concrete embodiment of realizing business strategy innovation in response to the development needs of Japan's new energy automobile market, but also a critical movement for IAT to follow the trend of China's automobile industry chain going global. It is also the best practice to implement the company's strategy of going global with “technology+supply chain”.
