IAT Automobile Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to “IAT”), YAMATO MOBILITY & Mfg. KK (hereinafter referred to “Yamato Mobility”), and SBS Holdings have jointly completed the development, mass production, and variety sale activities for electric conversions of 1.5-ton used trucks. This marks Japan’s first certification approval for mass production and sales of retrofitted electric small trucks (multi-unit applied). Following the license plate acquisition, the first truck was delivered at SBS Holdings on April 15, 2025.

The introduction of these converted electric trucks allows the companies to deploy the electric vehicles at one-third of the new truck (same type) purchasing cost, accelerating the local truck electrification process while reducing CO₂ emissions. As of March 2025, SBS Holdings operates 72 electric vehicles across its network. Through collaboration with Yamato Mobility, SBS Holdings plans to add approximately 20 more units in the first half of 2025.

Moving forward, subsidiaries under the SBS Holdings will progressively adopt these retrofitted electric vehicles. Partnering with IAT and Yamato Mobility, SBS Holdings aims to replace diesel trucks with electric alternatives and increase its EV fleet ratio through model repurposing.

The approval of the "multi-unit application" streamlines certification for subsequent vehicles of the same type and conversion specifications. Additionally, Yamato Mobility’s converted demo vehicle (No. 2) has also received its license plate, which paves the way for broader market promotion.

IAT will continue collaborating with the partners to boost EV market shares across logistics and distribution industries, further contributing to environmental sustainability. The company also plans to cooperate with partners specializing in electric vehicle conversion and maintenance to expand the business landscape. IAT is devoted to making efforts in science for better automotive solutions.
