On September 17, the opening ceremony of the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) for 2025 commenced in Nanning, Guangxi. Under the theme “Digital and Intelligent Empowerment for Development, Innovation Leading the Future—New Opportunities under the China-ASEAN FTA 3.0 for Building a Community with a Shared Future”, this year’s event gathered approximately 3,200 enterprises from 45 countries, with Chinese and foreign leaders among the distinguished attendees.

IAT Auto, a leading player in China’s automotive R&D services sector, was invited to take part. This participation signifies a critical stride in the company’s strategy to deepen its engagement in Southeast Asian markets and support China’s “Belt and Road” initiative.

As a frontrunner in automotive research and development services in China, IAT has consistently prioritized opportunities in the Southeast Asian market. Boasting over twenty years of experience in vehicle development and a comprehensive supply chain system. Against the backdrop of an increasingly saturated domestic market, the company has pioneered the deployment of AI technologies within the auto industry. It is actively advancing a “technology + supply chain” dual-strategy model for overseas business expansion, and has achieved significant progress to date.

Notably, during a visit to Nanning in March of this year, IAT Auto’s Chairman, Xuan Qiwu, and his delegation met with Chen Gang, Secretary of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Regional People’s Congress.

The two sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics including the application of AI to upgrade the automotive industry and the potential establishment of a China-ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Innovation Cooperation Center. Important consensus was reached on strengthening strategic collaboration and jointly tapping into the ASEAN market.

In earlier discussions, IAT noted that Guangxi’s unique geographic location and open policies offer great potential for companies looking to enter the ASEAN market. IAT plans to make the most of its strengths in vehicle design and smart connectivity, team up with Guangxi’s industrial resources, speed up the use of AI in auto manufacturing, and bring together high-quality partners to launch more joint projects.

The goal is to work closely with Guangxi to explore opportunities across ASEAN. IAT Auto Vice President Wei Xinzhu, stressed: “Southeast Asia is becoming a major new hub for the global auto industry. We’re not just offering vehicle R&D services. We’re also combining China’s mature supply chain and advanced AI technology with local needs to enable truly localized development.”

Analysts point out that as the Belt and Road Initiative advances, China’s auto industry is moving beyond just selling products overseas to a more integrated approach—exporting “technology + supply chain + services” together. With its dual strengths in both technology and supply chain, IAT is poised to set a new example for how Chinese automakers can expand successfully into the ASEAN market.

IAT stated that the company will use this year’s CAEXPO as a starting point to deepen cooperation with ASEAN countries and plans to expand into other Belt and Road markets. This move is part of its broader endeavor to support the global growth of China’s auto industry and IAT will continue to make efforts in science for better cars.
